Kitchenband is a Dora nominated collective of theatre and performance creators based in Toronto, led by playwright/director Erin Brandenburg and composer Andrew Penner. We produce new multidisciplinary work with a focus on stories inspired by the Canadian landscape and history.
Since 2009 Kitchenband has been creating and developing new and original theatre and performance projects. Our work has been seen across in festivals and theatres across Canada and combines theatre, music and visual art to tell stories inspired by the Canadian landscape and history.
From 2010-2012 Kitchenband was a company in residence at The Theatre Centre where we developed BOBLO, a concert theatre experience about an abandoned island amusement park in the Detroit River. BOBLO was written by Erin Brandenburg with music by Andrew Penner and directed by Steven McCarthy. BOBLO received 5 Dora nominations including two awards for sound design and composition (Andrew Penner, Andrew O'Connor) and lighting design (Rebecca Pitcherack).
Kitchenband work has been presented at the SummerWorks Performance Festival (Petrichor, Pelee), Toronto Fringe (Reesor), Next Stage Festival (Reesor), Rhubarb Festival (Detroit Time Machine), HATCH - emerging performance projects, Harbourfront Centre Harbour Kids Festival (Kitchenband Hootenanny), Guelph Jazz Festival Nuit Blanche (BOBLO sound map), New Harvest Festival (Reesor, Petrichor) and Nuit Blanche North (Detroit Time Machine, Drive).
